Wyke suffered a back to back defeat against League Champions YMCA, having been defeated by them on Sunday, and then two days later. Wyke lost 7-0 which was a definate improvement from the 10-0 result on Sunday.

The Under 11's made a brilliant start, coming out and taking the game to YMCA. Wyke had three strikers and three midfielders and this meant they could attack more. Sometimes attack is the best form of defence, and Wyke showed this, holding the game 0-0, until 5 minutes before half time. Wyke could have took the lead in the first half. Tai Pedder had an open net, but was on his weaker foot and put the ball wide. However Wyke attacked very well in places, Quinn and Jake linked up well on the right to create a few attacks, and Scott and Connor also made some good runs down the left, but didnt really get a shot on goal.

Agonisingly, Wyke conceded a goal, followed by another three is quick succession. Joe Couble was having a very steady game in goals, and made a few key saves, however he slipped up to let in the second, and the lad's heads went down. Wyke were trailing 4-0 at half time, and although YMCA had created more chances, Wyke were very unlucky to have let in 4 goals.

Wyke let another goal in very early on in the second half, and you had the feeling the Under 11's would go into freefall and let in a hat full of goals. However Wyke continued to battle, and again created some more chances. Wyke had quite a lot of the ball in YMCA's half, Tai Pedder, Scott Morris and Connor Rhodes all broke through the YMCA defence, but couldn't get a shot in on goal. They however, held the ball up well, which gave the busy Wyke defence a well needed break.

The midfield had to work very hard today, and Scott Morris and Nathan Khan ran their backsides off today. They had to work hard, as there were only three of them, and YMCA flooded the middle of the pitch with players during attacking plays.

Defensively, Wyke had a hard job, but Joe McLoughlin and Owen Hanson complimented each other well, and considering they have played very few games together in defence, they played well. After a few more games playing together, under their belt, this could be a strong partnership. Danny McGregor at left back has been the surprise package this season, after spending two seasons at Wyke as an attacking player, he has settled into the left-back position very well, which is a very difficult thing for a right-footer. Danny had a tough job, and worked so hard, and put in a brilliant performance. Matty Dignam also played well at right back, after a long spell without playing for Wyke.

Wyke conceded another two goals, and were eventually defeated 7-0, however the performance was so much better than that of sunday. Wyke didn't really deserve to lose by 7, and although they were realistically never going to get a result against such a talented team, they played with a lot of heart and determination, and for a change, their second half performance was a big improvement.

Manager comments

Really pleased with the effort today. Not the result we wanted, but it certainly was not deserved. We could have nipped a couple of goals, which would have been nice, but I was pleased with our attacking efforts, and because we made some good runs and attacks, YMCA couldnt attack, which kept the score down. We were unlucky to lose by such a big result, but we played well in the second half when we could have gone to sleep, and if we put in the same effort tomorrow against Battyeford, then they could get a surprise.

Man of the Match: Two man of the Matches:

Scott Morris: Scott made some great attacking chances, and he almost scored, however his most important role was that of the 'engine' of the team. Scott didn't stop running, and was so important for us today. He worked so hard, and made some great tackles as well as attacking balls.

Danny McGregor: Danny had a mammoth of a job today, against the YMCA right winger who punished us on Sunday, and he did much beter, he put in some great slide tackles and put up a strong front against any player who came near him.
