Match Report- Wyke 2-7 Dewsbury Rangers

Although Wyke were defeated again, it was a spirited and positive performance from the lads.
Wyke have had a couple of very dissapointing defeats in recent matches, however their
performance today was much better.

Wyke started well, and for the first 15 minutes of the match, they seemed the better team.

Their hard worked paid off, when Joe McLoughlin was brought down in the penalty area and
awarded a penalty. In a twist of fate, Nathan missed the penalty and Dewsbury broke away and
instantly took the lead.

Wyke let a second goal in within a couple of minutes, but really it was a very soft goal.

At half time Wyke were trailing 3-0. However the score didn't reflect the result, Wyke were
playing just as well as Dewsbury, and Scott Morris had made a couple of great efforts, and was
unlucky not to have scored, also Joe McLoughlin could have opened the scoring. Connor Rhodes
was also showing great promise, and could have also had a goal.

The second half saw Wyke continue to battle away. The 3 central midfielders, Nathan Khan, Dom
Pickersgill and Scott Morris were linking up very well, and Wyke were showing they had the
ability to match top teams. The defence were holding strong, but Owen and Tai were caught out for
pace a couple of times, however they did well to get hold of the ball, and clear the ball. Jake Gilderdale
was the unsung hero of the match at left back, and his performance at left back was of a very high
standard against a good dewsbury right winger.

Wyke did score a couple of goals, which is definately a boost, as they haven't really had many
reasons to celebrate recently. New signing Connor Rhodes broke though and scored 2 one on ones. Connor
has really impressed since joining from Bradford Park Avenue just before Christmas.

Goals, Connor Rhodes, x2

MOM: Scott Morris, Scott was strong into the tackle in the middle today, and he made some
great forward runs, he was very positive and strong on the ball, and made a couple of great
chances. He was unlucky not to score.

Dave: Well Done boys, a much better performance!!! We continued to battle away and didnt give
up, even when we let some poor goals in. We scored 2 good goals, and it is important we have
a natural goalscorer like Connor, because we need goals!! The 7-2 result was unfair on us. Although
Dewsbury were the better team (just slightly) we had good chances, and not much luck against us!
