After 4 weeks without a game, Wyke were thrown in at the deep end, with a massive game against the mighty YMCA. Wyke didn't play particularly well, and YMCA took their chances, to win 10-0.

YMCA started the livelier of the two teams, but Wyke were strong at the back, and Joe Couble was commanding his area very well. However YMCA scored 8 minutes into the match and from there on it was all downhill for Wyke. YMCA were leading 4-0 at half time and Wyke had barely left their own half. The Midfield was struggling to keep hold of the ball, and there were very few attacking efforts.

Wyke weren't showing enough heart and drive. YMCA won every ball, and the Wyke lads were happy to let them. However there was a couple of minutes when Wyke were fired up, and started to play reasonably well, however it didn't last.

YMCA continued to dominate in the second half, and kept on scoring. Joe Couble had probably saved the team from letting in another 3 or 4 goals, pulling off a couple of brilliant saves. Within 30 seconds of the second half kicking off, Wyke had let another goal in, and the game continued in this manner for the rest of the game.

Wyke made a couple of chances, Quinn had an effort, as did Scott, but the YMCA goalkeeper wasn't troubled by much. Connor Rhodes had the best couple of chances, first he headed the ball from a corner, but the keeper saved, and secondly he should have scored from close range, but somehow managed to put it over the bar.

Wyke 0-10 YMCA

Manager Comments

We haven't played for 4 weeks, so playing the best Under 11's team, out of the 70 teams in the Huddersfield League, was never going to be easy. However I thought we could have done much better, and we made a couple of careless mistakes. However we played reasonably well in parts. I think the result will improve when we play them again in 2 days time.

Man of the Match: Joe Couble. Without Keeper Joe Couble today, we would have probably lost 15-0. Joe made a couple of brilliant saves, and was very steady, coming out and commanding his area very well. He really was let down by a weak defensive performance.
