A historic day, as
Wibsey Lions Football Club faced their first ever league game, and
what a game to start with, Ossett Town had lost out on winning the
league last season, by drawing with Wyke last season, so although no
longer Wyke Wanderers, Ossett were definitely out to get revenge.

The Lions got off to a
roaring start in the league, with a comfortable 3-0 victory, which
flattered Ossett, as Wibsey dominated much of the game and didn't
take all their chances.

It was a very reserved
start for both teams, with the play staying mainly in the middle, and
very little action either end.

Wibsey did eventually
start to get on top of the game, Connor Rhodes and Josh Thompson both
forced the Ossett Keeper into action, he made some good saves to deny
Wibsey a lead.

Wibsey kept up the
pressure, battling for every ball in the middle of midfield. Nathan
Khan was looking excellent in the middle, and along with Damien
Hields, they were winning every ball. Ossett barely had an
opportunity to play football, with Damo and Nathan dispossessing them
on many occasions.

Ossett ended up
resorting to the long ball style of play, but they had no chance of
gaining anything from it. The Wibsey defence were far too good. The
new partnership of Michael Brooksbank and Davis Peel looked awesome,
and Scott and Jake were also protecting the wings admirably, whilst
getting forward and supporting attacks.

After 20 minutes,
Wibsey were totally in control, Josh Thompson was excellent down the
right, creating some fantastic chances. Ryan Archer also picked up
where he left off last week with an excellent performance, as Wibsey
continued to push Ossett for their first goal.

Nathan Khan had three
chances in the first half, but he didn't connect well with one of
them, and his other two were comfortably saved, Josh also had another
shot whistle past the post. The Lions were all over Ossett but just
couldn't find the back of the net.

Wibsey continued to hit
the wings, Callum and Josh were brilliant down both flanks, and Josh
played in two fantastic crosses which Callum put over the bar.

Half Time- Wibsey 0-0
Ossett Town

The Lions picked up
where they left off, continuing to put pressure onto the Ossett
defence. Their persistence finally paid off, 9 minutes into the
second half, Josh Thompson fired down the right flank and crossed the
ball, Ryan Archer raced in and connected fantastically with his head
firing into the back of the net. Finally Wibsey had their first goal.

Ossett did try to get a
goal back, but they just couldn't break down the defence, again Davis
and Michael were brilliant, every ball over the top was dealt with,
and Tai Pedder was very strong in goals, pouncing on any loose ball.

Nathan Khan and Damien
Hields were having an awesome game in the centre still, playing some
quality football and continuing to win the ball. Similarly Ryan
Archer was doing a great job of getting the ball under control, and
played some excellent passes out wide to Josh and Scott.

Wibsey doubled their
lead after 18 minutes, Connor Rhodes cut inside, and passed to Nathan
Khan, Nathan shot, and the ball bobbled past the keeper, maybe a
lucky goal but Nathan had certainly deserved it.

Wibsey remained in
control for the remainder of the match, they were incredibly lucky
not to score more goals, Connor Rhodes had a few chances which he
would have normally scored with ease, and Josh Thompson also had a
few 1v1s which the keeper got the better.

Ossett did continue to
battle, but they just couldn't find a way through the strong defence,
along with Tai in goals who had had a very safe game.

The Lions snatched a
third in the last minute, Nathan Khan was the provider again, out
wide to Josh Thompson who cut inside, charged at the keeper and
scored coolly. A great goal to put the game to bed.

Full Time- Wibsey 3-0
Ossett

Goals

Ryan
Archer (44), Nathan Khan (53), Josh Thompson (69).

Man of the Match

Nathan Khan: It
was brilliant to see Nathan looking himself again, he has really
showed his quality today, he bagged a goal, but his performance in
the middle and his ball winning ability was incredible, he also
worked so hard up and down the pitch and set up some fantastic
opportunities.

Manager Comments

We
were amazing today, one of the best performances I have ever seen. We
looked very strong all over the pitch, and we played some brilliant
football, passing the ball well when we were in possession. Also we
did very well off the ball, getting up and winning every ball in the
middle, and playing with loads of confidence. Our defence has never
looked as good, and it was great to see Tai playing so confidently in
goals, and bagging his first clean sheet. Great stuff boys!!
