Wibsey had to respond in a positive manner today,
after a very disappointing performance culminating in their first
defeat of the season last week. This week their opponents were
Scholes Utd, 4th placed after two victories in three
games.

Wibsey Lions put in a fantastic effort and
achieved their biggest ever win as a team, showing that they are
still well in the mix for a title challenge this season.

The Lions had a fantastic start to the game,
coming close with a few chances, within the first 5 minutes Connor
Rhodes had put a shot wide and Mudiwa Tegama had hit the crossbar
with a header, but it was after 5 minutes that Wibsey opened the
scoring. Ryan Archer broke forward with the ball, and attempted to
play a through ball to Connor Rhodes, the ball deflected back to
Archer, who struck the ball fiercely into the back of net.

Again Wibsey Lions continued their pressure, and
after 16 minutes it was 2-0. Josh Thompson broke down the right and
drilled the ball hard and low, Ryan Archer was there to connect
perfectly, the ball going in off the post.

Despite a two goal lead, it was Scholes who had
much of the play in the middle of the first half, they did a good job
of breaking on the counter attack but the Lion’s defence were on
top form.

Mudiwa Tegama was having an outstanding game on
the right, and Scholes just couldn’t penetrate the wings, Jake
Gilderdale was just as solid on the left. However it was excellent
defending from Davis Peel which kept the Scholes strikers at bay,
putting in some key tackles to maintain the Wibsey Lions two goal
lead.

Wibsey did a good job whilst attacking, but there
was a big gap in the middle of the pitch, although it was a very big
pitch and Nathan Khan and Callum Docherty had a lot of ground to
cover.

Tai Pedder was also very comfortable in goals, he
did a good job of coming out and collecting the ball. Scholes nearly
got back into the game, but Jake Gilderdale cleared off the line, and
Davis Peel put in a couple of exceptional tackles, Damien Hields was
also playing very well.

Wibsey had a perfect end to the half, Connor
Rhodes amazingly scoring a hatrick in four minutes. The first was a
gift, the Scholes Goalkeeper mis-kicked a ball, and Connor Rhodes
lept on the chance to score an easy tap in, his next came a minute
later, a dead-ball deflected off a Scholes defender and fell to
Connor who played a composed shot past the keeper, then shortly after
he completed his hatrick thanks to a beautiful cross from out wide by
Mudiwa Tegama, it fell perfectly onto his head and past the keeper.

Wibsey had now given themselves a 5-0 lead to go
into half time with.

The Lions picked up where they left off, with
another period of pressure. Josh Thompson was making a nuisance of
himself down the right, and he put in a couple of good crosses which
weren’t attacked as well as they could have been.

Everytime Wibsey were in possession they looked
very dangerous. Ryan Archer was playing well in the middle, but
Wibsey struggled to get back in time when they lost possession.
Although Wibsey were passing the ball much better, Callum, Nathan and
Ryan were linking up well together.

Scholes were still struggling to get through the
defence. Davis and Damo were too strong!

Wibsey made it 6-0, six minutes gone in the half.
Mudiwa and Nathan played some good link up play, and Nathan slotted
through Josh Thompson, who had acres of space and slotted through the
goalkeepers legs for his first goal of the game.

Buoyed by his first goal, Josh added his second in
style seven minutes later. His in-swinging corner curled right under
the crossbar and into the back of the net leaving no chance for
the Keeper.

For the remainder of the game, Scholes put a
little pressure on Wibsey, and they continued to remain strong,
Mudiwa had been switched to centre-back and was having a blinder,
putting in some strong tackles, also Calvin Barker put in an inch
perfect last ditch tackle.

Wibsey did get a little complacent towards the
end, and were a little bit reluctant to come back and defend, and
they were punished by poor marking which gave Scholes their first and
only goal of the game.

It was too late though, and Wibsey regained their
composure towards the end of the game to hold strong and finish the
game as 7-1 victors.

Full Time: Wibsey Lions 7-1 Scholes

Goals

Ryan Archer (5,16),
Connor Rhodes (31,32,35), Josh Thompson (41, 48)

Man of the Match

Mudiwa Tegama: Tigz
was brilliant today at both right back and cente back. He was patient
on the ball, played some good passing football, set up an amazing
goal for Connor and his tackling and strength at the back was
outstanding.

Manager Comments

We were excellent
today boys. The difference was today we supported each other, and
didn't panic!!! We were supportive and I could tell you all enjoyed
playing today, and played with confidence. We need to keep this up,
if we had played like this last week, it would have been very
different. We need to keep up with challenging for the ball, that’s
what makes the difference in matches, today we did well, but against
stronger teams we need to work a bit harder in the middle. However
our attacking play was very good, and we looked really strong at the
back.. Great all round performance today boys.. Well done!
