Wyke Wanderers 3-3 Longcroft Lions

Match Report

Wyke had a great result against Barugh last week, however they faced very tough opposition against Longcroft Lions, Longcroft had had a great start to the season and won their first 2 games of the season.

Longcroft proved to be very difficult opposition, and dominated much of the first half, and too be honest, they could have scored several goals. However a great performance from Joe Couble in goals, meant that the teams were level, at 0-0 when the half time whistle went.

Wyke hadn't had many attacking chances in the first half, Mikey Brooksbank, was causing a few problems for the longcroft defence, but seemed to be attacking on his own too much, and a goal didnt look likely.

The second half started much as the first had ended, with Longcroft in control. Eventually the deadlock was broken when the Loncroft centre midfielder (Number 5) walked through the Wyke defence and put the ball in the back of the net, and to be fair, the goal had been coming.

However, Wyke shocked everyone with a quick reply. Nathan Khan's shot, took a lucky deflection, and went in to give Wyke a surprising equiliser.

1-1 didnt last long, and the talented Longcroft number 5, ran rings around the Wyke defence, and restored the lead to 2-1.

Wyke now started too look disheartened, and lacking in confidence, and Longcroft looked more and more threatening.

Longcroft pilled the pressure on, and they scored again, with a great finish, which Joe Couble couldn't do anything about.

It didn't look good for Wyke. Heads were down and Longcroft were flying.

However, Wyke managed to keep their heads up and keep believing. 100% effort from Wyke, and they started to improve. The defence were playing much better, and Jake Gilderdale, who was now on the right wing, was causing all sorts of problems for Longcroft.

With 13 minutes to go, a moment of brilliance, gave Wyke a lifeline. Nathan Khan striking a long range effort into the top corner, from 25 yards, to earn him his 2nd goal. A spectacular effort.

Wyke continued to battle, Louis at right back was playing much better, and pushing forward more, and Owen and Tai seemed to settle down and stop any balls over the top.

Nathan and Dom Pickersgill were brilliant in the centre of midfield today, but Dom was subbed with 7 minutes to go, to make way for Quinn Riley, and give Wyke some more attacking options.

It paid off, and Wyke scored with 2 minutes to go. Joe McLoughlin scored a close range effort, to equalise.

Final result: 3-3

What a great result for Wyke. They are really competing well in such a difficult league.

The Wyke team spirit won a point for Wyke today, and against tough opponents, the confidence and belief of the lads, was the main reason for gaining a point.

Man of the Match: Nathan Khan, Nathan is such an important player to the team, and after being injured throughout the summer, has only just found his form, but what a game he had, and he scored one of the best goals i've ever seen from the team.

Other Key Players: Joe Couble in goals made some great saves, and also came off his line more, if it wasn't for him, the half time result wouldnt have been 0-0. Also Jake had a good game on the right wing.

Goals, Nathan Khan x2, Joe McLoughlin
