Wyke faced their rivals Battyeford this Sunday, in a game which promised to be a tight match. Battyeford were only 2 places above Wyke in the league, and had not beaten Wyke since they were U8’s. However the result didn’t suggest a tight match, with Battyeford overcoming Wyke to win 7-2.

Wyke took an unexpected lead, when Connor Rhodes broke through and lobbed the keeper, to make it 1-0.

However in a reversal of fortunes, Wyke then conceded two goals in two minutes, the second took an unlucky bounce and beat keeper Joe Couble

Wyke continued to attack very well, Scott Morris was playing very well, as was Nathan Khan and Dom Pickersgill in the middle, and Wyke continued to create chances, Connor was playing with a renewed confidence after his earlier goal, and he was unlucky not to score another.

Wyke’s defence was very sloppy in places, Owen and Tai didn’t really get into the game, and Wyke conceded another goal to go 3-1 down.

Battyeford were unlucky not to score another in the first half, Joe Couble made a couple of good saves. And Wyke were rewarded with another goal just before half time, when Scott Morris struck the post, and Quinn Riley scored a simple tap in to open his scoring account for the season.

Half-Time 3-2 to Battyeford.

Wyke’s structure fell to pieces in the second half. The central midfielders put in a very good performance today, and Wyke did have chances, Connor and Scott both had scoring opportunities, but Battyeford had the luck as they scored another four goals to bury the game. Unfortunately the boys heads went down, and Owen and Tai didn’t settle down in defence today, and in the end Battyeford had an easy second half of attacking, and gaps started to appear at the back.

It was a reasonable performance today, the weather was horrible, and after Battyeford scored a couple of goals, our heads went down, and it is difficult to carry on playing and giving 100%.

Man of the Match: Danny McGregor. Daniel put in 100% today, on the left wing he made a couple of great through balls for Scott and Connor, and at left back, he had a tough job which he put in a good effort.

Goals, Connor Rhodes, Quinn Riley
