The
Lions Hammer Gomersal!

Wibsey Lions were on a fine run of form, culminating in
their amazing 10-1 victory last week. The team were really getting
into their stride. Gomersal were also on a good run, having been
victorious in their last two games, winning 2-0 and 3-1 against
Queensbury and Scholes respectively.

Having achieved their biggest win ever last week, the
Lions did it again! This time they showed their dominance and
ability, with a huge 12-0 victory.

Wibsey fielded a changed side from the victorious team
last week, Ryan Archer had returned, whilst Mudiwa Tegama had been
moved into central defence, and Davis Peel had been moved forward
into midfield. Josh Thompson had been switched onto the left flank.

Strangely enough, it was a very even first 15 minutes,
with very little constructive play in either team's areas. Much of
the play was in the middle, although Wibsey Lions did have a couple
of half chances early on, but nothing to trouble the Gomersal
goalkeeper. Damien Hields looked on fine form, giving his opposite
numbers very little time on the ball. His partner Davis Peel also
proved to be an important ball-winner in the middle.

On 12 minutes it was the Lions who were celebrating,
after finally getting their breakthrough. Josh Thompson's long corner
was met by the head of Nathan Khan, and with such power the Keeper
was unable to react. The third time in a row Khan has given his team
a lead in matches.

It was still a very conservative performance from both
teams with very little in the way of attacking play, Connor Rhodes
and Jake Gilderdale put shots wide.

However The Lions had a brilliant period of dominance
with 22 minutes played which gave them a strong hold over the game.
Damien Hields did well to win a tackle in the middle, he carried it
forwards and played it to Ryan Archer, Archer slotted a great ball
through to Davis Peel, who finished coolly for his first ever goal
for the Lions.

Only a minute later it was 3-0, Connor Rhodes
dispossessed a Gomersal defender, turned in and curled a beautiful
shot on his right foot past the goalkeeper.

Two minutes later Wibsey scored a fourth, Mudiwa Tegama
played a long ball out from defence, which wasn't dealt with by the
Gomersal central defender, and it fell nicely to Connor, who rounded
the keeper, and slotted into the net for his second goal of the game.

Gomersal were in freefall, and Wibsey leapt on their
opportunity to score another, amazingly a fourth goal in four
minutes. This time Josh Thompson nudging in from close range from a
mis-cleared throwing.

Just before the stroke of half-time Wibsey scored a
confidence-destroying 6th goal, it was Rhodes again, who
was proving to be on fantastic form today, to blast a 20 yard shot
past the keeper giving him, amazingly, his sixth hatrick of the
season.

Half Time- Gomersal/Cleckheaton 0-6 Wibsey Lions

Despite being comfortably ahead, Wibsey continued their
pressure. It was a reasonably slow start during the second half,
although Wibsey were dominating much of the possession, with Damien
and Davis controlling much of the play.

At the back, the partnership of Michael Brooksbank and
Mudiwa Tegama were outstanding, both players proving to be far to
strong for any attacking move which came from Gomersal. Jake
Gilderdale had also been very strong at right back, and Scott Morris
was doing well to get involved in plenty of attacking play up the
left flank.

It took only 10 minutes for the Lions to add a seventh.
Josh Thompson did excellent again to beat his man, cut in and square
a ball to Callum Docherty, who curled the ball into the bottom corner
far out of reach of the keeper.

The Lions were totally and utterly dominating the game,
Nathan Khan, Ryan Archer and Josh Thompson were proving too much too
handle, as was Brad Hawes who came on as a sub and had a brilliant
game.

8-0 came on 19 minutes, Docherty was there again to get
his second, a fantastic bit of control from Connor Rhodes, who set up
Callum for a great opportunity. Callum struck the ball perfectly with
great speed and accuracy past a helpless keeper, a great goal!

Three minutes later, Wibsey's star man Connor Rhodes was
there again, Ryan Archer swung in a corner, and Connor headed in on
the near post, a fourth goal from him, after a top class performance.
9-0 Wibsey.

Josh Thompson grabbed a 10th goal for Wibsey,
with 13 minutes left. A fantasic performance from Ryan Archer, which
saw him assisting a third goal, he played in a freekick which was
mis-cleared, and Josh fired the ball home from 12 yards.

Ryan came close to bagging himself a goal moments later,
but it took two very good defensive blocks to deny him.

Gomersal had very little attacking play during the
second half, the Wibsey defence were camped in Gomersal's half, as
they struggled to clear the ball. Although a ball over the top nearly
gave them a goal, but Mudiwa showed excellent speed to get back and
put in a tackle to deny them. Calvin Barker was also very strong at
right-back, after coming on at half time, his best game so far for
the Lions, doing a good job putting in some very important tackles.

With 9 minutes to go, Scott Morris grabbed a goal to
make it 11-0. Bradley Hawes, was having a very good game down the
right, and he played in a cross which fell to Scott Morris, who
curled the ball into the bottom corner.

Gomersal's fate was finally sealed with three minutes to
go, a deflected tackle fell nicely to Nathan Khan, who got in behind
the defence and slotted under the keeper's legs.

Full Time: Gomersal/Cleckheaton 0-12 Wibsey Lions

Goals

Nathan Khan (12, 67), Davis Peel (22), Connor Rhodes
(23, 25, 35, 57), Josh Thompson (26, 59), Callum Docherty (45, 54),
Scott Morris (61).

Man of the Match: Connor
is proving to be a very special player! Not only as a goalscorer, but
he did very well to act as a provider, especially for Callum's
second. He's scored an amazing 24 goals now, including six hatricks.
He had a fine game today putting away almost all his chances, along
with a well taken header.

Manager Comments

We were top class today. I was pleased to see us putting
our chances away, and that's what killed off Gomersal early on. We
worked very hard and battled throughout the game, despite it being a
comfortable game, but we made it look easy today. Gomersal are a
decent side and we have made them look really poor! Fantastic boys,
Keep up the hard work!!
