Wibsey now faced their
latest test against Kirkburton, recently relegated from the first
division, and having a tough time adapting to life in the second
division, with only one win in five matches.

It was a very tight
match, but the Lions managed to scrape thee three points to keep
themselves in third spot.

Wibsey Lions only took
6 minutes to score. Connor played the ball out wide to Ryan Archer,
he struck the ball, and the ball was saved, but fell to Nathan Khan
who had an easy finish.

The lead didn't last
long, Kirkburton levelled, a very good cross was nodded in on the
back post.

26 minutes gone, the
Lions took another lead, a mis-shot from Connor Rhodes deflected into
the path of Skipper Damien Hields, who fired the ball from 30 yards
past the keeper, a fantastic goal, just the inspiration the team
needed from their captain. Wibsey 2-1.

Two minutes later
Damien Hields did it again. Josh scooped the ball over to Nathan, who
flicked to Connor, Connor squared to Damo, who fired the ball into
the roof of the net. Wibsey now looked comfortable at 3-1.

It had been a scrappy
first half, Wibsey had defended well, Davis and Michael looked strong
at the back, but much of the play had been in the middle.

2nd Half

Connor Rhodes had a few
chances to extend the Lion's lead, as did Josh Thompson.

It was a quiet second
half, with much of the play focused in the middle, Damien Hields was
having a fine game in the middle and didn't stop working, which gave
Wibsey a lot of possession.

Kirkburton came back
with 8 minutes to goand made it 3-2, but Ryan Archer scored a
fantastic curling freekick only a minute later to restore their two
goal lead.

Kirkburton scored late
on to give the Lion's a hard time for the last few minutes but they
held strong.

Full Time- Wibsey 4-3
Kirkburton

Goals

Nathan
Khan (6), Damien Hields (26, 28),

Man of the Match

Damien Hields- A
Fine performance from the skipper today. A really inspirational
performance, scoring two goals to give his team a lift. He was
tenacious into every tackle, won nearly every ball in the middle and
never gave up.

Manager Comments
