Wibsey were hoping to
continue their run of form, after victories against Scholes and
Kirkburton. In contrast Batley were hoping to turn around their
fortunes, with no win in five games.

Wibsey Lions put in a
fantastic performance, hammering Batley by an incredible 10-1 margin.

The Lions made a very
lively start, and Connor Rhodes forced the Batley Keeper into making
two good saves early on.

6 minutes into the
game, the Lions took the lead. Josh Thompson whipped in a cross,
which was flicked onto Connor by Damo. Connor nodded to ball wide to
Nathan Khan who brought the ball down well and fired home.

The Lions continued
with pressure, and Scott and Connor Rhodes were unlucky not to extend
the lead. Connor having five shots, two of which were cleared off the
line.

Wibsey were very
comfortable, defensively Davis and Michael were very organised, with
Jake and Scott playing well as full backs.

They were also very
competitive in the middle, Damien, Nathan and Mudiwa winning a lot of
possession, and converting it into more attacking chances. Josh
Thompson was creating all sorts of problems for the Batley defence
and it was only a matter of time before they extended their lead.

It took 19 minutes to
add a second, and what a goal it was. Michael Brooksbank dispossessed
the Batley midfield, broke forward and fired home a screamer from 30
yards. What a cracker!! Wibsey now led 2-0.

Connor Rhodes had
another couple of chances, it didn't want to go in for the lad. After
28 minutes Wibsey made it 3-0, Callum Docherty swung in a corner and
it was turned into their own net from a bad Batley clearance.

Connor Rhodes finally
found the back of the net on 32 minutes. Mudiwa played an excellent
ball through the middle and Connor, 1v1, coolly rounded the keeper
and slotted into an open net to give Wibsey a 4-0 lead.

Only a minute later The
Lions had another. Davis Peel did excellently to clear a ball down
the wing to Josh Thompson, Josh showed fantastic flair to beat his
man, cut inside and square to Nathan Khan who curled the ball into
the roof of the net. Fantastic play from Josh and a top finish from
Khan for his second and Wibsey's 5th of the game.

Just before half time,
Nathan almost scored a hatrick, but his header from a corner whistled
narrowly over the bar.

An excellent half from
the Lions!

Half time- Wibsey 5-0
Batley

2 minutes into the
second half, Connor Rhodes made it 6-0, Callum passed into Michael,
his shot deflected and fell to Connor, who scored a fantastic goal,
turning and firing into the top corner.

Josh Thompson added the
next, he played in a corner, which wasn't cleared, it fell to Davis
Peel, Davis played it back to Josh who cut in, and curled into the
far corner leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. A well deserved
goal from Josh, after a fine performance. 7-0 Wibsey.

Wibsey continued to
hammer Batley. The defence held strong, with Jake Gilderdale putting
in an excellent shift at right-back, along with Davis and Michael who
were also playing very well. Tai Pedder was having a reasonably easy
game in goals, but did well to come out early and collect balls over
the top.

10 minutes gone in the
second half, it was 8-0. Mudiwa played another fine direct pass
through to Connor Rhodes, the Keeper came out to clear and miss
kicked it, and Connor leapt on the opportunity to score yet another
hatrick!

Wibsey nearly scored
more, with Michael hitting the post from distance, also Nathan and
Damo had more chances, as well as Connor.

The next goal came with
10 minutes to go, Jake Gilderdale played an excellent through ball to
Josh Thompson, and he struck it first time under the goalkeeper's
legs.

With 5 minutes to go,
Wibsey made it 10. This time Josh Thompson was provider, to Connor
Rhodes, who fired home for his fourth of the game.

Batley got a
consolation goal with three minutes to go, but it little to dampen
the spirits of the Lions. A fantastic performance from the lads today
and a well deserved victory.

Full Time- Wibsey 10-1
Batley.

Goals

Nathan
Khan (6, 33), Michael Brooksbank (19), Own Goal (28), Connor Rhodes
(32, 37, 45, 65), Josh Thompson (41, 60).

Man of the Match

Josh Thompson: Josh
had a fine game today. He was so dangerous down the right wing,
causing loads of problems for the Batley defence, He set up two goals
and scored two, a fantastic individual effort from him today.

Manager Comments

What
a fantastic performance today. Our biggest ever win as a team. Really
pleased with how we played. We didn't give up, even when it was a big
scoreline, we stuck to our game plan and kept up the pressure all
match. Great stuff boys.. well done!
